Jera Tena is considered to be one of the finest potters currently in Mata Ortiz. You
will have the opportunity to learn from one of the finest potters in the world. He is
known for his effigy work but demonstrates a wide variety of skill level when making
his pots. His work continues to impress by virtue of his 1st place finish at the annual
award show in 2008(picture below).
This is a 3 day class that will include the whole process of gathering your clay,
cleaning it, and forming it. You will learn the unique method of forming your "olla"
(pot) through the traditional coil/pinch method that has made this pottery unique
and world known. All paints will be derived from the natural minerals surrounding
the area. All methods will be traditional including the firing.
